COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ASH RECEIVER, TOBACCO
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of
this commercial item description in preference to Federal
Specification AA-A-710, type II, style A.
This description covers ash receivers used for the collection of cigarette and tobacco wastes.
Salient characteristics:
Material. Phenol-formaldehyde resin.
Design. A minimum of three cigarette rests (self-extinguishing type) shall be provided, and shall be constructed to prevent the cigarettes from rolling or falling outwardly off the receivers when allowed to burn unattended. Shall be designed to permit ventilation under the receiver. One piece construction. All inside corners shall be radiused.
Color - black, lustrous.
Finish - the receiver shall have a polished finish on both inside and outside surfaces.
Ash and waste well size - 1-1/8 + 3/8 inch deep; minimum capacity - 8 fl. oz. (to top of well)
Exterior dimensions - manufacturers’ option.
Test (1) shall not fracture or chip when dropped three times from a height of 30 inches to a concrete floor. (2) A lighted king-size cigarette shall be placed with the burning end in contact with the inside surface of the receiver. After allowing the cigarette to burn half of its length, extinguish by pressing the burning cigarette against the same inner surface. There shall be no charring, blistering, or burning.
Workmanship. The ash receivers shall be smooth, free from rough edges, projections or sharp corners. They shall be free from any defects which might impair serviceability, durability or appearance.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
